The HDS certification is mandatory in France for hosting personal health data collected in the course of care (patient records, imaging, lab data). Built on ISO 27001 with healthcare-specific requirements, it covers six activities: from providing rooms and infrastructure (1–2, the data center’s role) to application management (5–6).
Buyer’s checks: a data center certified for activities 1–2 does not make your platform compliant — every link (host, MSP, software vendor) must cover its own activities; the certificate has an expiry date (we track it on our listings and remove the badge at expiry); and data location remains a separate criterion (sovereignty, GDPR).
