AI has blown up densities: a 4–8 GPU chassis draws 3 to 10 kVA, a full compute rack easily exceeds 30–40 kVA — ten times the classic enterprise rack. Consequences:
- Not every room keeps up: check the maximum density per rack (kVA) and per m² — many sites cap at 6–10 kVA.
- Cooling changes: beyond ~20 kVA/rack, air is no longer enough — direct liquid cooling (DLC) or rear-door heat exchangers become mandatory, and few data centers offer them.
- Billing shifts to kW: at these levels space becomes secondary — you buy power and cooling capacity, no longer U.
- PUE counts double: at 30 kVA/rack, the gap between a 1.2 and a 1.6 site runs to thousands of euros per month per rack.
So state kVA/rack and cooling mode in your very first inquiry — it is the first filter, before price.
