What Chengdu allows

The data center listed in Chengdu is operated by Enmoe Network.

The electricity behind Chengdu

A city has no electricity of its own: the sites in Chengdu are connected to the national grid, itself interconnected with its neighbours. What is measured, and what decides, is therefore the country's generation mix. That grid draws 54.3% of its electricity from coal (2025). The detail: coal 54.3%, hydro 13.2%, solar 11.1%, wind 10.7%, nuclear 4.6%, natural gas 3.2%. Fossil fuels (coal, gas, oil) account for 58.3% of it. A kilowatt-hour there weighs 525 g of CO2, i.e. 1.1 times the world average (458 g), 2025 figure. Concretely: a 3 kVA rack, in a site with a PUE of 1.5, draws 35,478 kWh a year and therefore emits 18.6 tonnes of CO2 a year here. The same rack, same hardware, same PUE, would emit 16 tonnes on a world-average grid. The building has nothing to do with it: the country does.

What the ground has done under Chengdu

Since 1970, 40 earthquakes of magnitude 5 or above have been recorded within 100 km of Chengdu, and 88 within 200 km. The strongest: magnitude 7.9 in 2008, 58 km away. This record covers 56 years, which is short on a seismic timescale: no recorded earthquake does not mean no hazard. It does not replace the statutory zoning, which alone binds construction.

What Chengdu does not allow

With a single listed site, Chengdu cannot support a disaster-recovery plan spread over two separate buildings within the same town. A second site remains necessary, and it is found in the nearby cities listed below. No Internet exchange point is listed here: traffic will run over transit bought from a carrier, which is billed by bandwidth. No rate is published by the operators in this city: pricing is on request, and we do not estimate it on their behalf.

Other cities with data centers near Chengdu

The nearest site outside Chengdu is 1,266 km away, in Guangzhou (3 sites). Short distances matter: they drive the cost of a link between two buildings, and whether a backup site is workable.
